I think there are angels in us no matter how some see cruelty in this world. There are kind and empathetic people. So choose the world with them, one that is happy – the one that’s filled with hope and laughter. A world that is positive by sharing a smile and away from toxicity and complaints. One that is filled with the music as an expression of the soul!
It’s October, a mental health month, and luckily or unluckily, today is mental health day itself plus a month-long couple more of celebrations like Indigenous People’s Month, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
It’s the mind, the cultural song like Salidummay and breastfriends power put into a month’s celebration. What month can’t you ask for besides being a “Ber” month?
What can we do? Perhaps, let’s start carrying a happy tune! You know how much the music uplifts our souls. I know you would agree! I, myself, experienced it many times.
When I am really down, I get to relate to the lyrics of a song. So, do you think you need more happy songs to listen to when you’re down? Well, not necessarily! Sometimes you just listen to feel what’s inside your heart and mind. You just have to accept that it is a process.
I remember during a heartbreak, I would listen to Ben and Ben (not that I’m advertising them although a shout out would be great) over and over again. I would cry and find hope in the lyrics. I would choose that over happy songs because I couldn’t force myself to be happy outright. As in everything and as I have to emphasize, everything and all is a process.
There were also times in the morning where I got to exercise and dance with Pamela Reif (this is an influence I got from my sister Cha) on YouTube. I absolutely like Reif’s simple cardio workouts and music found on Spotify too. Even staying at home for zumba with Meghan Trainor’s “Better when I’m Dancing” music works well too or maybe the familiar tune of the girlaloo dance of “Girl in the Mirror” from Live, Love, Party Zumba Group. Sweating it out releases the good endorphins in the body.
Walking has been a good part too. Been doing at least 10,000 walks per day based on metrics shared on my cell phone. I am slowly looking at running and going to hit the gym later but I have to check the back aches and pains at this age. Someone told me that I have to do it before I tell anyone I want to do it. Well, fat chance! Crossing my fingers now!
Significantly, mental, physical and social aspects in a person come together as a holistic approach to coping with mental health as explained by my recent doctor. I couldn’t agree more or less?
We are diverse and there’s no one way to cope, heal or manage. Even the actress Kylie Verzosa is a healthy and exercise idol too. I say, “Just do what you want to do as long as you find it good for you”. Therefore, practice healthy coping strategies.
There is no perfect healing, coping or managing. It is a concept of trial and error, mostly associated with trying and doing. If you’re having second thoughts, let me be the one to tell you first – yes, you can!
Now off to a happier music, I’m getting in the mood. Spotify if you can but YouTube if you must!
