The Pen

After September with the Suicide Prevention Month, October the Mental Health Month and November after all soul’s and all saint’s day plus the horror of the holiday halloweeen for employers but joyful trips for employees, December is fast approaching and still here you are. Although, albeit struggling, you’ve made it this far just like a song legacy like Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”.

Thriller or not, realities are sinking in and drowning you and you’re crying for help so let’s take the negativity and throw it somewhere else, perhaps to the West Philippine Sea? Amidst the storms that make or break you or the Marce typhoon, so to say, for example, take a moment to be hopeful and obviously with hope!

They say writing is an escape and you can make the moment and make the escape worth it. Imagination, as always also, is one worthy escape!

Every week, I will find one thing and associate it with mental health thoughts. I may share questions to ponder for reflections and add a few explanations, while you may give feedback of your own regarding your understanding. Feel free to express what you feel. After all no perspective is wrong or right unless you go middle! However, remember to be kind – always.

The Pen

You are made to write on paper, to savor what is right from wrong. You are made to make a mark on the blank of that paper.

Whoosh… The paper snoozes.

Whish… The paper sneezes.

Whisk… the pen stalks.

Click… a pen speaks.

The pen asks:

How have you been?

How has your journey begun?

How does it continue?

How have you treasured your mental health?

Let the inks that sing stings and sticks and make you realize you are worth loving and immortalizing.

Questions for Pondering:

  1. What do you imagine when you think of a pen?

  2. What things come to mind when holding a pen?

  3. How would you relate a pen to your mental health?

Reflections of the Writer:

Sometimes, you are like that pen – unimaginably worthy to be loved but you end up unforgiving yourself for all the pain and the past – the choices you’ve made. Realize that perfection is a myth and balance is a must but in between those lines, are the concept and actually living life to the fullest.

I recently gave a testimony to student leaders, my hands were shaky and wobbly because of the effects of the new medicines perhaps and the nerves trying to set in. I realize that although I have accepted the invitation previously, it was not one of my best days. So, I took time for self-care by writing this to unleash the load in my head. Then I am looking forward to sleeping, taking a bath and seeing my doctor next week.

As cliche as it may sound, “You cannot fill from an empty cup”.So may your cup be just right so as not to empty or overflow it. May the cold and the warmth weather of December soon be just enough to hold you tight at night in it’s breathe’s breeze.

As to the pen? The pen will not judge you. It has no right to judge.
