CLARK FREEPORT ZONE, Pampanga — FedEx Corp. has officially broken ground on the expansion of its gateway facility here, a major investment aimed at boosting regional logistics capacity and reinforcing the Philippines’ role as a primary trans-shipment hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
The expansion is expected to directly benefit businesses and communities across Central and Northern Luzon by upgrading cargo handling capacity and streamlining the movement of goods through one of the country’s fastest-growing economic corridors.
Department of Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go, who also serves as the country’s investment czar, joined FedEx executives at the groundbreaking ceremony to highlight the economic impact of the project.
“The expansion of FedEx will deepen global connectivity and strengthen local trade capabilities,” Go said. “Filipino firms and consumers can reach more markets while more foreign traders can reach ours. As the Asia-Pacific region grows, the Philippines will be better positioned to ride on this momentum and drive our economic growth.”
Once completed, the modernized logistics facility will span more than 78,000 square meters. The upgraded facility will feature advanced handling and operational systems designed to improve shipment reliability and increase service flexibility for commercial clients.
According to FedEx officials, the project will strengthen the company’s ability to manage express, e-commerce, and freight shipments, while making its regional cross-border trade network more resilient.
“The expansion of our Clark gateway reflects our continued commitment to the Philippines and to building a smarter, more resilient network across the region,” said Masamichi Ujiie, president of FedEx North Pacific and South Pacific. “By enhancing our operational capabilities at Clark, we are better positioned to support Philippine businesses, enable efficient cross-border trade, and provide more reliable connectivity to global markets.”
The project marks the latest phase of growth for the shipping giant in Pampanga. FedEx opened its initial Clark gateway in October 2021 and signed a land lease agreement with Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD) in 2024.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with Robinsons Land Corp. (RLC) serving as the project developer.
The new facility will also incorporate several eco-friendly features to reduce its environmental footprint and improve energy efficiency. Planned sustainability elements include insulated building materials, energy-efficient glazing, high-performance roofing, LED lighting, skylights, and electric vehicle charging stations.
The site will also feature water-efficient fixtures, a rainwater collection system, and power-optimization infrastructure with provisions for future solar power installation.
