It’s been nearly a month since the Cong. Eric Go Yap Congressional Cup opened.

Since its first game at the BSU Gym on September 16, at least six teams have already hosted their home game.

First to host the home and away format is La Trinidad 1, edging its young counterparts in La Trinidad 2.

Sablan followed suit of hosting the tournament and drubbed Kabayan, 95 – 79 in the event backed by Cong. Eric Go Yap and ACT – CIS party list.

Itogon, one of the tournament’s contender, followed suit, and made sure that their hosting will be one for the books as it edged Mankayan, 97-85, in a highly heated match that saw at least seven players and a coach sent out as tempers almost flare.

But when Itogon returned to their homecourt to face La Trinidad 1, the team was immediately given a reality check with a 107 – 99 beating.

Kabayan, the home of the gods, had its turn and made sure that their hosting will not go to waste by way lading Atok, 104 – 81.

It was where the sweet shooting Kyle Aldrich Naisod recorded the most triples with 11. Naisod also fired 10 triples when they faced La Trinidad 1 during the opening.

Another player with 10 triples is Jason Brian Albaran.

Tuba’s time last weekend proved that home games are crucial in the almost one month old basketball tournament also backed by Benguet Gov. Melchor Diclas, Media for Sports and Development, and Mark Media Solutions.com.

Tuba, manhandled an undermanned Itogon, 107-91, showing its force in front of the home crowd lead by their supportive Mayor Clarita Sal-ongan.

Bokod, Mankayan, Buguias have yet to play in their home turf while Kapangan the sixth team to have a home game Oct. 3, overpowered a winless Kibungan (0-5) squad, 90-76, and secured their third win in six games.

Games in Atok are still being worked out due to the playing venue condition while Bakun and Kibungan have begged off to host any games due to lack of a decent basketball court. ###
