LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Buguias made short work of Atok and pulled off a 91-75 victory Wednesday at the Benguet State University closed court in the Cong. Eric Go Yap Congressional Cup – Benguet Basketball League.
The win over Atok showed what Buguias could do at full strength that saw them beat Kapangan but, however, fell to the stronger squads like Tuba, La Trinidad and Tuba. The other loss was to Kabayan in what could be a winnable game.
“We have lost a couple of winnable games but I guess, this is what we really can do. We need to practice more though,” said Bacani, who top scored for Buguias with 21 points, while adding six rebounds, three assists and two each of steals and blocks.
“At least we can communicate now,” he added.
Buguias jumped the gun early as it took a 29-18 lead at the end of the first quarter, which was 13 at the end of the first half. After scoring twice as much as Atok in third canto, the lead has grown to 28, 78-50.
But Buguias relaxed a bit in the final canto for a lower winning margin.
Jumar Pulido added 15 markers for Buguias which now improved to 2-4 win-loss slate.
After a league record 55 points against Itogon last Sunday, Kurt Tamiray once again led Atok with 33 points, while he pulled down 10 rebounds.
Vincent Smith added 12 points and pulled a game high 14 rebounds. Denver Ganado was a point shy of a double-double after making nine points and pulling 12 boards. Atok is tied with Buguias with a 2-4 card.
The BSU covered court will be venue of the December 13 volleyball games where neighbors Bakun and Kibungan face off, while Atok tests Kabayan.
The BSU sports facility will be host of basketball games this weekend, the December 17 and 19 basketball games.
On Sunday, Tublay hosts the volleyball games, while the BSU covered court will be venue for the December 18 and 20 games.
The last of the games will be on December 22 with six games slated at the Benguet Sports Complex in Wangal. CEGYCC Release
