World’s highest Rotary International marker in Benguet

The Rotary Club of Baguio Summer Capital (RCBSC) made history for establishing the highest Rotary International marker in the world along the stretch of the Halsema Highway in Atok, Benguet.

The marker was officially unveiled on July 6, 2024 within the “Highest Point” of Halsema Highway, being the 2nd highest point of the Philippine highway system with an elevation of 7, 400 feet above sea level.

Atok Mayor Franklin Smith along with dignitaries of the RCBSC led by its president for 2023-2024, Roland “Chongloy” Wong, past president Dr. Virgilio Bautista and Jhun Bambalan graced the ceremony that was marked with a customary offering and dancing of the traditional tayaw.

The marker is a testament of the collaboration of the RCBSC, municipality of Atok, and the Department of Public Works and Highways-CAR.

The event also marks the 25th charter anniversary of RCBSC, which was behind the numerous civic and outreach missions in the Cordillera and its environs.

Atok, Mayor Franklin Smith and Rotary Club of Baguio Summer Capital Jhun Balbalan were long time acquaintances when Smith was still a Councilor driving him to the airport every time he had overseas postings. Dave Leprozo Jr.
