Sablan waylays Tuba, a win away from Yap Cup V-League crown

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Sablan drew first blood and walked home with a 25-15, 25-11, 25-16 in a one – sided event to start the best of three finals in the Cong. Eric Go Yap Congressional Cup – Benguet Women’s V-League at the Benguet Sports Complex here Tuesday.

Jasmynne Polon, Shery Estal and Hanna Mae Dumpit combined for 46 points to easily take down Tuba’s resistance in their 59 – minute encounter.

Polon was the heavy bomber as she hit 17 attacks and added an ace, while Estal proved her backstop as the middle blocker hit 14 attack points and a single ace.

Dumpit made it a triple threat with her 13 markers built on eight attack points, two aces and three blocks.

But it was setter Abigail Cunanan which made possible the three’s spectacular play with 28 sets while adding four attack points and a single block.

It was practically a walk in the park for Sablan which has won all it’s 17 games – the 12 elimination games, the quarterfinals against Mankayan and a sweep of the semifinals.

“We hope to finish the games on Wednesday,” said Cunanan, who was named best player of the game, her sixth in the league and ahead of most valuable player candidate Polon.

“We do not want a third game, finish it immediately, ” said adviser and Sablan councilor Romeo Amboy.

It was not a Tuba at its full strength that came to the game three weeks after the come from behind five set shock victory over second seed La Trinidad.

Mary Ann Atuban was the only player scoring in double digit with 10 points on seven attacks points, an ace and two block shots.

She also had 15 digs and receptions while her second attacker, Radinka Dumawor was limited to four points on two attacks, which came in the third set, and two aces. She, however, had eight digs and receptions. CEGYCC Release
