LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Kapangan rolled past Mankayan in straight sets despite getting a scare in the second to zoom to its eighth win in the Cong. Eric Go Yap Congressional Cup Benguet Women’s Volleyball Sunday at the Benguet Sports Complex here.
Victoria Mie Balabag, Lovely Joy Balagat and Xhyrielle Joy Sasa scored 10, nine and eight points, in that order, to lead the third ranked team to the 25-11, 26-24, 25-12 victory on the second straight game without coach Danny Edwardo.
Balabag’s score all came from attacks, while Balagat had a single ace to compliment his eight attack points in the game that lasted 64 minutes.
Kapangan got a scare when it was staring at a 20-24 in the second set, but with Mangantulao at the service area, they miraculously pulled themselves out of the hole and with a 6-0 run.
“We had to include our younger players in the line up in the second set,” said Mangantulao, a decision she had to make to give the said players time to gel with the team especially in case some of their veterans will not make it during games, particularly those during the weekdays.
Kapangan will face cellar dweller Bakun on Tuesday.
Four of Kapangan’s players chipped in six markers each with Mangantulao, Dezsaera Monang, Roselyn Suhat and Steffie Casibang.
Marlyn Julian had 10 points, six attack points, two aces and two blocks, for the losing Mankayan which fell to 3-7 with two more games remaining – Bokod and the must win against Kibungan to secure the eighth and final slot. CEGYCC release
