KAPANGAN, Benguet – Itogon barely broke a sweat and needed just 49 minutes to dispose off Bokod in the Cong. Eric Go Yap Congressional Cup – Benguet Women’s Volleyball League at the Kapangan municipal gym over the weekend.
Reynae Arances powered her team to 13 points built on nine kills and four service aces to lead Itogon to a 25-10, 25-13, 25-10 victory over their neighbor team.
Itogon actually had a field day at the service area as six players scored more than one point from the area with Arances and Lhyraine Barrientos making four each. Junilyn Dacnes added three marks from the line to dominate Bokod and a shorter game time.
Bokod never got a chance from the get go and never took the lead as the third runner up from the Gov. Diclas Cup proved the better team.
“I really need the players presence and for now, they can respond to my call, the play,” said coach Oliver Jimenez in Filipino.
“That was really frustrating (default) and I have since asked our team mates to be more committed, to be at the playing area at least an hour before the game,” said Arances, a Benguet Electric Cooperative employee, and team captain.
“It was disappointing that only five players were present when the defaulting time was sounded. You know us ladies need to fix ourselves before we go play,” added the former University of the Cordilleras hitter.
“She brings out the best from our team and the players look up to her as someone who came from a higher level of competition,” added Jimenez of Arances, who also had two digs, both in the second set.
“We have to play our best now to make up for that missed game two weeks ago so we need by at least straight sets (against the weaker teams),” she added.
Winless Bakun is playing Mankayan as of this writing.
