Ilocos region gets 27 ambulances from DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region has concluded the distribution of land ambulances for calendar year 2023 with a total of 27 units fully equipped with the essential medical equipment needed for first aid care.

The last batch of units were turned over to the local government unit (LGU) of Bolinao, who received 1 land ambulance on September 13, 2023.

On September 14, 2023, the regional office again handed two units to Manaoag LGU for use of the Manaoag Community Hospital and Manaoag Super Health Center. The City Health Office of Dagupan City also received one unit.

A total of eight land ambulances were given for Pangasinan; sixteen units for Iocos Norte; one for Ilocos Sur and 2 for La Union.

Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said that the land ambulances were facilitated by the health department through the Health Facility and Enhancement Program 2023.

“All these units were made possible through the initiative of congressional representatives of various districts of Ilocos Region to provide emergency medical transport and ensure the efficient delivery of health care services at their respective localities,” she stated.

“Alam natin na napakahalaga ng pag-transport ng isang pasyente from one health facility to another or from the scene of an emergency to a hospital dapat ay may kakayahan itong magbigay ng sapat na health care support hanggang makarating sa pinakamalapit na pagamutan.”

The land ambulances were fully equipped with life-saving equipment such as a folding stretcher, nebulizer, portable suction machine, defibrillator, portable suction machine, examining light, aneroid sphygmomanometer, scoop stretcher, stethoscopes, non-contact thermometer, blood-glucose meter with strip, resuscitators for infant, pedia and adult; oxygen therapy set; laryngoscopes set; immobilization devices, delivery set and patient transfer monitor.

Sydiongco also reminded LGUs to assign a properly trained driver to manage the vehicle. One who possesses a valid professional driver’s license, who has undergone Basic Life Support Training and, who has been issued an appropriate identification card by the DOH.

The unit will also be managed by a nurse and a medical doctor to provide the medical needs of patients; treating, stabilizing those who are injured en route for further treatment to the nearest health care facility. NLMonitor
