Human easel project launches in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY- Sixty artists all over the Philippines flocked to the mountain city to launch the “Human Easel Project,” aimed to bring art closer to the masses.

Led by Art Show Philippines (ASP), founder and head curator Frederick Epistola said “The Human Easel Art Project is an avant-garde initiative conceptualized by artist that reimagines the display of art by using the human body as a living stand to exhibit creators’ works.”

Espitola said the project aims to innovate the presentation of art by using artists’ bodies as the primary means of display and explore the symbiotic relationship between the artwork and the artist’s physical form and ultimately engage the audience with a living, breathing exhibition that challenges conventional gallery experiences.

Artists came from as far as Davao Del Norte, Cavite, Ilocos, Batangas, Mindoro Occidental, North Cotabato and Manila to launch the project in the city as part of events during the 2nd National Art Convention, January 17-19, 2024.

The convention featured masterclass with Popoy Cusi: On-the-Spot Drawing Session, Kigao Rosimo on Sculpture and Installation, Tam-Awan Village and Chanum Foundation president, Jordan Mang-Osan on Pyrography and an “Indio Genius” talk by National Artist for Film, Kidlat Tahimik.

“By transforming the artists’ bodies into organic pedestals, the project aims to dissolve the barrier between creator and creation, inviting a deeper contemplation of the interconnectedness of artist, artwork, and audience, we want to create a dialogue about the intimacy and vulnerability in the act of presenting one’s art and provide a platform for artists to experiment with presentation and performance as an extension of their creative process,” the founder of Art Show Philippines said.

The ASP Baguio team led the ang organizing ng human easel and plans to have another run of the show soon.

Dacpano added “Sa ganitong paraan, mas nailalapit ang sining sa masa at mas maunawaan nila ang bawat estilo ng sining na nasa harap nila.” By Maria Elena Catajan
