The rain never stops even Apo Hiking Society songs like “Pumapatak na naman ang ulan sa bubong ng bahay” are ancient songs to die and Regine Velasquez’ fervors as Millennials says, “Pagmasdan ang ulan, unti-unting pumapatak sa iyong paligid pag-umuulan
… Na… Na… Na… Na” and many other songs, in an off-key tune. Good thing I bring and you too, bring an umbrella — always.
Do you know that our moods are often affected by the rains and the cold weather? In the Philippines, the rainy seasons keep you indoors because of the flooding and perhaps the fear of leptospirosis or even dengue which are prevalent matters now.
In certain countries, climate change is brought about by 6 months hot long summer and 6 months icy winter. For example, a Swiss national we met in Thailand long before, works six months and gets a 6 months mental health break.
In the Philippines also, we get a 3-day leave for mental health break. In the US and Canada, healthcare systems are properly in place especially for Psychosocial Disabilities, Insurance and the like. Here, we have a “naghihingalong” Philhealth. As government officials say, ” Do what you can do for your country and not what your country can do for you.” Maybe then, follow others working and migrating abroad.
Anyway, videoke is just a shed away. Perhaps, I can sing near the beach over some “inihaw na bangus” just don’t let the rain get to you. Dance in the rain or do as the “Bini’s” does – allure with those sexy movements. Maybe, we just ought to sing and dance? Who’s with me?
Oh, well we can’t stop the rain but we can control our reactions regarding the rain. There is something as internal environments we can hold off. But for a person with lived experiences of a mental illness, it takes time to process and be self-aware with a mathematical non-linear graph.
Some days are bad. Some days are good while some days are just that — “Coke Sakto”. As Ms. Universe Catriona Gray believed, live and learn to find the beauty of silver linings.
May you find the silver linings you are looking for and the seascapes and landscapes that creates tranquility of your soul. Now off to videoke singing and “Bini’s dancing”. You, what are you doing next? Care to join me singing and dancing? The modern witch lady “Glinda” is now off with a broom in the 1970’s original series the Good Witch!
