Buguias sails past Kibungan, nears QF berth

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Buguias used the three-set win over Kibungan to prep them for the last four games where three of the stronger squads are among those awaiting them.

It was a 25-15, 25-20, 25-17 victory for Buguias despite missing of their key players and their coach Tier Bigo in their 62 – minute victory in the Cong. Eric Go Yap Congressional Cup Benguet Women’s Volleyball League at the Benguet Sports Complex here.

“Just like our battle cry, sang-at, we will climb,” said veteran Geneveb Buyagan who scored nine points, eight attack points and ace, in the win that came after her missing their first game of the new year.

“We will take it slow and surely we will give the tougher teams a tough time when we meet,” said player of the game Sandra Betwing, who have seven attack points and five service aces.

Betwing, who took over the coaching chores, was at her element in the first set where she scored five on attacks and four service aces and with Jocelyn Vinegas were the team’s main attackers.

The second set belonged to Visperas, who scored three of her five, and Buyagan, who stayed much longer in Zambales for a family vacation that saw her gain two pounds and was having problems hitting the ball during attacks.

It was win number five for Buguias against three defeats with Itogon, Bakun, Kapangan, Tublay still lurking. Except for cellar dwelling Bakun, the three are some of the league’s bests.

Kibungan fell to 2-8 in tie with Bokod at 10th, which it will face in its next match. CEGYCC Release
