Buguias outpoints Kabayan from service area

TUBA, Benguet – Buguias started coldly but found its rhythm midway the first set and scored a 25-19, 25-12, 25-12 over Kabayan in the Cong. Eric Go Yap Congressional Cup – Benguet Women’s Volleyball League at the municipal gym here Saturday.

Sandra Betwing had 15 points built on 11 attack points and four service aces to register the win for the team which tries to emulate the Philippine Volleyball League top team Creamline in terms of demeanor – be happy.

“We just want to play it cool, be happy like Creamline,” said coach Kier Bigo.

Betwing led Buguias’s offense in the first set where she scored five points alone. Trailing 7-9, Buguias found its rhythm to slowly inch close and eventually take the lead.

From there, Buguias never looked back as it took the lead early in the next set. The team had 25 points alone from service set, then 13 of their total points from the area in the last.

Geneveb Buyagan may not have the best attacks, but she was almost unstoppable with her service where she scored 11 of her 14 points from that area. She also fired six service aces alone in the fourth.

Desiree Joy Banih had nine points on six attack points and three aces, a complete copy of Eloise Manganip’s output (9 – 6, 3), while Evangeline Bay-an and Bles Bilagot both had five points, the former had five from the service area, four of which alone came in the later part of the last set.

No Kabayan player scored in double digit.

“We really started slow due to the travel from Buguias from here. But we made it up in the service area,” said Bigo.

“We had to make it good from the service area,” summed Buyagan.

With the win, Buguias improved to 3-2 win-loss card, while Kabayan fell to 1-4. La Trinidad seeks to fortify its hold on second spot as it faces another contender in Tuba in the last of the four games scheduled here as of this writing. CEGYCC Release
