The Bases Conversion and Development Authority and battery manufacturer StB GigaFactory Inc. have entered into a preliminary agreement to develop renewable energy, power storage, and electric mobility infrastructure across New Clark City and other government-managed economic zones.
Under the 12-month memorandum of understanding, the development authority will provide site access, administrative support, and operational data, while StB GigaFactory will conduct feasibility studies, technical surveys, and financial modeling to craft a deployment roadmap for clean energy projects.
The initiative aims to build a modern power grid capable of integrating utility-scale renewable energy, improving power reliability, and supporting electric vehicle infrastructure in the master-planned industrial hub north of Manila.
“Partnering with StB GigaFactory aligns directly with our vision to make New Clark City a model of sustainable, high-tech urban development,” said Joshua Bingcang, president and chief executive officer of BCDA.
“By integrating cutting-edge energy storage and clean mobility solutions into our master plan, we are building a resilient infrastructure framework that empowers industries, protects the environment, and drives long-term economic growth,” added Bingcang.
The deal capitalizes on StB GigaFactory’s existing presence in the area, where it operates the nation’s first manufacturing facility for Lithium Iron Phosphate battery cells and energy storage systems out of the Filinvest Innovation Park.
The factory currently employs 500 local workers, with management projecting its workforce to expand to 2,500 employees by 2030 as demand grows for domestic battery manufacturing and energy storage capabilities.
The partnership aligns with the broader infrastructure and energy transition goals of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., whose administration has pushed to bolster national energy security, accelerate renewable power adoption, and strengthen climate resilience.
