Mayor Benjamin Magalong lauded the city’s athletes and other members of the city’s delegation to the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) for another successful campaign in the regional sports meet.
“With the perseverance, dedication and determination that you had displayed, we never doubted that you would make it. Indeed, you did not fail us and we are thankful and proud,” the mayor said.
The Baguio E-Lions team reasserted the city’s supremacy by amassing 225 gold, 107 silver and 56 bronze medals.
Games host Benguet came in second with 79 gold, 108 silver, and 88 bronze medals. Last year’s runner-up, Apayao was in third place with 36 gold, 50 silver, and 83 bronze medals.
Ifugao was fourth with 28 gold, 35 silver, and 61 bronze medals.
City Sports Division Head Gaudencio Gonzales said the city’s medal haul mostly came from combat sports like taekwondo, arnis, wushu and pencak silat. The city also dominated archery, swimming and athletics.
A total of 3,774 athletes from the region’s two cities and six provinces saw action in the different events played last Feb. 23-28, 2025.
Benguet had the biggest contingent with 581 athletes followed by Baguio with 569, Apayao with 516; Ifugao, 486; Abra, 485; Mt. Province 415; Kalinga, 380 and Tabuk City, 342.
While most of the events were played in host Benguet, some were conducted in the city namely football at the Baguio Athletic Bowl (in photos), gymnastics at the Baguio City National High School, wrestling at the Irisan National High School and archery at Melvin Jones.
