Ambush in Tayum, Abra – Asenso Abreño Party Official Statement

On the afternoon of April 21, 20205, the campaign convoy of Asenso mayoralty candidate in Tayum, Abra, Lia Cariño Alcantara, was ambushed by several gunmen while plying Tayum.

Fortunately, none of the passengers in the convoy were shot. However, the vehicle carrying Lia sustained multiple bullet marks in different parts, including the windshield.

Again, the vehicle identified in several shooting and harassment, a black Ford Ranger with plate number AAE 7239, was one of the two vehicles used by the gunmen.

We know the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

Awan iti lugar yo ditoy Abra ta nauman iti umili iti kinaranggas yo!

Iti kayat iti tattao iti Abra ket kappia, respeto ken waya-waya!

This ambush is a cowardly act of violence which only shows their growing desperation because they know that Lia and the entire Asenso is supported by the people of Abra.

This failed assassination not only targets a dedicated public servant but also undermines the very foundations of our democracy.

We cannot allow such barbaric acts to silence the voices of those who aspire to lead and serve the public!

We call on the people of Abra to rally together to protect our democratic values and ensure that every candidate, regardless of their views, can campaign freely and securely.

This May elections let us show our commitment to a new Abra – a province where we live in a just and safe society, where political differences are resolved at the ballot box, not in the shadows of ambush.

Uston ti kinaranggas!

Together, we will not be intimidated, and together, we will rise against this violence and affirm our unwavering belief in the power of democracy! Asenso Abreño Party
