Alvarez stops foe in ONE Friday Fights

In just 17 seconds, Team Lakay’s Carlos Alvarez finished his opponent with an anaconda choke putting Seiya Matsuda in ONE Championship’s Friday Fights 101 in Bangkok, Thailand.

After a brief exchange in the stand – up, Matsuda went for a takedown but Alvarez was quick to counter, grabbing the Japanese to the canvass and was eventually put to sleep.

“I’m so overwhelmed, I did not except that to be so quick,” said Alvarez, who will also go home with a 350,000 Thailand Bhat bonus from ONE.

Prior to their face off, Matsuda is undefeated in his two ONE Friday Fights appearance, scoring a split decision win against Mikhail Gritsanenko on March 2024 and a unanimous victory opposite Rusi Hadzhiev in November last year.

“I know Seiyo Matsuya is a tough opponent but we prepared hard for it, we drilled for it a lot in the gym. We knew that he will try to take me down early in the game so that’s it, our game plan worked,” added Alvarez.

Alvarez announced his entry in ONE Friday Fights with a resounding second round technical knock – out of Reza Abasi in April 2023 while submitting Sadegh Ghasemi in the second round and Title Chai in the first round in July and October 2023 respectively.

His dreams of getting the coveted contract in ONE got dashed however, after he suffered a second round TKO against Mongolia’s Nachyn Sat in December 2023.

Almost a year after his loss to Sat, Alvarez worked on his skills and scored a second round TKO against Mirza Aliev on November 2024 and revive his hopes of getting signed up in the big league. Roderick Osis
