Baguio Jungolfers delivered a strong opening-day performance Wednesday, tallying 98 points to secure third place in the premier men’s regular A division during the first round of the 4th Cordillera Golfers Foundation Inc. Golf Tournament at Pinewoods Golf Club.
Nathan Belandrez, 17, led the Baguio Jungolf Association squad with 30 points, while 10-year-old Marco Angheng contributed 26 while Basti Saycon, 16, and William Sulit, 15, added 24 and 18 points, respectively, for the only junior squad competing under the “four-to-play, four-to-count” format.
Action in the charity tournament, the largest in Northern Luzon, shifts to John Hay Golf Club for the second and third rounds this weekend.
George Punasen of Greenwater captured individual honors for the day with 37 points, propelling his team to the top of the regular men’s A standings with 117 points.
Punasen was supported by Douglas Puckett’s 28 points, Garry Puckett’s 27 and Sonny Fontilea’s 25. Davao Eagle Masters III sat in second place with 109 points following performances by Christopher Tan, Regino Capa, Roderick Lo and Larry Baluso.
In the inaugural ladies division, Baguio Olympics 2 and Igolfers USA Team 13 are tied for the lead with 106 points each.
The Baguio Olympics 2 roster features Glaissa Del Rosario, Dina Eden, Jolannie Sacyat and Myles Bazar, while the Igolfers USA squad includes Marceline Bangonan, Vivian Gomeyac, Gloria Moguet and Kim Telles.
Golden Razcals dominated the Seniors A division with 167 points, led by Elias Bulut Jr., Bernard Capuyan, Kit Moreno and Swanny Mangaoang. In Seniors B, Team Pugo Adventure set the pace with 170 points behind the efforts of Eugene Martin, Cesar Pasiwen, Willy Cayat and Robert Basco.
The tournament continues through April 18, with nearly 400 players from 94 domestic and international teams competing for titles across two courses. CGFI Release
