City lauds ‘fire-safe’ barangays

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the City Government under Mayor Benjamin Magalong, honored barangays that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to fire prevention and emergency preparedness during flag-raising rites, March 3, at City Hall.

Barangays that recorded zero fire incidents from 2020 to 2024 were recognized for their diligence in maintaining fire safety and preventing disasters in their communities.

These are Alfonso Tabora, led by Punong Barangay (PB) Virginia Pugong; City Camp Central, PB Jessie Bandiola; City Camp Proper, PB Jaime Bustarde; DPS Compound, PB Ariel Del Monte; Imelda R. Marcos (La Salle), PB Lucia Dolteo; Lower Dagsian, PB Henry Farnikan; North Central Aurora Hill, PB Veronica Castro; Palma-Urbano, PB Florida Gacayan; Pinsao Pilot Project, PB Dexter Fag-ayan; Rizal Monument Area, PB Arnaldo Miranda.

San Roque Village, PB Ernesto Amon; Sta. Escolastica, PB Belma Estepa; Sto. Tomas School Area, PB Lawrence Donato; Scout Barrio, PB Manolo Llaneta; Slaughterhouse Area Sto. Niño, PB Melinda Cabayao; Upper Magsaysay, PB Priscilla Dacanay; Upper Rock Quarry, PB Joey David; Malcolm Square, PB Hadji Baniaga; South Central Aurora Hill, PB Levy Orcales; West Bayan Park, PB Robert De Vera; West Modern Site, PB Rolly Dizon; and East Modern Site, under PB Peter Bucasan.

Aside from fire-free communities, the city also recognized barangays that actively participated in the SIPAG (Strengthening and Intensifying Public Awareness on Fire Safety and Prevention) Train Barangay 2023–2024 program which honors barangays that have undergone extensive fire safety training and awareness campaigns conducted by the BFP.

These include Atok Trail led by PB Federico Codley; Kias, PB Victor Benlingan Jr.; Loakan Liwanag, PB Abraham Urmaza; City Camp Central, PB Jessie Bandiola; City Camp Proper, PB Jaime Bustarde; City Camp Gabriela Silang, PB Orlando Basongit; Camdas, PB Janet Floresca; Irisan, PB Arthur Carlos; Sto. Tomas Proper, PB Alejandro Agpes; Dontogan, PB Renato Bongcog Sr.; and Asin under PB Peter Dumapi.

Further recognizing efforts in fire prevention, resolutions and commendations were awarded to Barangay San Antonio Village, led by PB Nicanor Nialla, and Barangay Engineer’s Hill, under PB Amado Belizardo, for their exemplary contributions to fire safety initiatives.

The awarding ceremony served as a reminder of the collective responsibility in preventing fire-related disasters as the local government and the BFP continue to encourage all barangays to adopt fire safety measures, emphasizing that preparedness and awareness are key in ensuring the safety of communities.
