A youth group expressed full support for the disqualification case filed against siblings Erwin and Ben Tulfo and other members of the Tulfo clan before the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
On Monday, a certain Virgilo Garcia filed a disqualification petition against members of the Tulfo clan including QC 2nd District Representative Ralph Tulfo, Turismo party-list nominee Wanda Tulfo-Teo, and ACT-CIS party-list nominee Jocelyn Tulfo in violation of the expressed prohibition on political dynasties in the 1987 Constitution.
“Dynasties’ monopoly of government positions, elective or otherwise, is a direct assault on the foundations of democracy and good governance which is undermined by their candidacies,” said Kabataan Para Kina Ka Leody at Luke (KPKL) in a statement to the media.
They asserted that for the Comelec to maintain impartiality, the constitutional prohibition against political dynasties must be applied to all aspirants.
“The disqualification case against the Tulfo clan, who consistently leads in commissioned surveys, will only benefit other rival candidates aiming for the top spot if not followed with petitions to disqualify all dynasties,” the group said.
Since late last year, various commissioned surveys have been dominated by candidates backed by the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., all of which belong to established political dynasties.
The group argued that “Bongbong Marcos’ entire senatorial slate must be disqualified”.
“His personal choice to fill his slate with members of political dynasties whose track record of anti-poor legislation has perpetuated poverty and exacerbated structural injustice”.
“It is a clear message to Filipinos: BBM endorses exploiters and plunderers dressed as public officials,” KPKL added.
The youth group revealed that they are now in consultation with their legal counsel on the next steps moving forward.
