Tublay moves for power generation partnership

The municipality of Tublay in Benguet has asked the Benguet Electric Cooperative to for a partnership in developing the renewable energy resources.

In a resolution by Councilor William Esteban approved by the entire council and signed by vice-mayor Juan Esnara, the town formally asked BENECO to conduct a prefeasibility study of the town’s river system for possible renewable energy development projects which if found positive will be explored in a joint venture with the electric cooperative.

BENECO general manager, Melchor Licoben said “This is a very welcome development and a big step in attaining BENECO’s goal of lowering the cost of power for our member-consumer-owners (MCO) in the future by getting into renewable power generation.”

Licoben expressed gratitude to Tublay’s leadership for giving trust to the cooperative’s capability to build, operate and maintain a power generation facility, like the Man-asok 3.24 MGW mini-hydro in Buguias.

In the resolution, Tublay said that it is willing and ready with its team to sit down with the proper BENECO representatives to map out the strategies, agree on the terms of reference and define the scope of the possible partnership. BENECO Release by Laarni S. Ilagan
