LA TRINIDAD, Benguet –La Trinidad is on a mission – to take the number two spot and the twice to beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
This as it swept Mankayan, 25-12, 25-14, 25-21 in just 58 minutes of action in the Cong. Eric Go Yap Congressional Cup – Benguet Women’s Volleyball League Sunday at the Benguet Sports Complex.
Despite taking out most of its starters in the second set, La Trinidad had no problem in stamping its authority.
Only Kates Gacad scored in double digit as she drilled 10 markers on two attack points, but has five service aces, four of which in the first that saw them come back from a 2-8 hole.
Floralex Budas had her best showing with nine points, seven on attack and two aces, while Elyzel Nunez, who starred in the five set reverse sweep of Tublay before the Christmas break added seven markers all on attacks.
Heidi Tallocoy added the same score on six attack points and an ace, six of which in the first set and a single marker in the second before she was taken out in favor of Marjorie Reroma. By then starting setter Shirley Balantac was also taken out in favor of Irylle Gawageo who went on to score five points on two attacks and three aces.
It was the ninth win for La Trinidad and will face two lower ranked teams – Bakun on January 22 and Kabayan on January 25.
“The plan remains, we have to win the next two games for us to get to the second seed,” said coach Jhong Patrick Garcia, who met his former team for the first time since moving to Trinidad before the league started.
Mankayan, which was led by setter Marydel Binegla with seven points, suffered its sixth loss in nine games.
