Setter Wasit lifts Tublay past Bokod; Atok, Mankayan scores in Congressional Cup

Kapangan, Benguet — After their five – set debacle in their last outing, Tublay buckled down to work and notched their second win in four games in the ongoing Cong. Eric Go Yap Congressional Cup Benguet Women’s V-League Sunday morning.

Tublay needed one hour and four minutes to dispose Bokod, 25-18, 25-15, 25-12 with Wruchelle Wasit recording a game high 19 sets on top of his seven markers with an ace and two attacks.

With Wasit controlling the offense for Tublay, it was cruise control for Maricar Pilay and Eriech Dangbis scoring at will pouring in 17 and 12 points respectively with both spikers accounting for 11 aces during the game.

Moving on from their five – set loss the last time out, Wasit said the team needs to focus, which they didn’t have against Tuba.

“Nawalan kame ng focus. Aside from focus, we lacked teamwork and good thing, kahit hindi kame kumpleto this time, we were able to win,” said Wasit.

With an identical 2-2 record and currently in the running for a quarterfinals berth in the event backed by Cong. Eric Go Yap and ACT – CIS Partylist, Wasit said the team is looking forward to having their line -up complete in their remaining games.

“Yuung sa schedule namin kasi yung iba may work kaya sometimes hindi kame kumpleto. Hopefully sa mga ibang games makumpleto,” added Wasit of the tournament also supported by Gov. Melchor Diclas and the Media for Sports Development.

Meanwhile, Atok finally nailed its first win in tournament sending Kibungan plunging to the team standings with three – straight set win, 25-12, 25-21, 25-23, in one hour 12 minutes of action.

Down from two sets, Kibungan tried in vain to force a fourth set in the third but timely attacks by Aimee Galao, kept them at bay.

Galao led the charge for Atok with 11 points, banked on nine kills and two aces while Jussel Teo-adan, Vicky Nab-us, and Iana Tabula – Santos added five markers apiece.

Atok coach Patrick Depolio said the team still need to find their rhythm, which was evident in the third set when Kibungan made a run.

“We tried experimenting during the third set that’s why nakahabol yung Kibungan,” said Depolio.

Depolio is hopeful his experiment on his rotation noting that the team has yet to fully complete their line-up every game owing to the absence of some players due to previous commitments.

“Hopefully in our succeeding games, we will be complete but we will try our best with whatever line-up we have every game,” added Depolio.

In the other game, Mankayan made short works of Kabayan for a three set victory.

Mary Joyce Marinas tallied 11 points built on five attacks and six aces in the 25-18, 25-13, 25-17 victory which came after 57 minutes of action.

Mankayan scored 12 aces alone with Jeal Laigo adding three aces and with five kill points, she talllied eight points, the same output made by Jennycar Begya. Cordillera Career Development College’s Marlyn Julian added seven.

No Kabayan player scored in double digit with Heaven Leigh Benito leading with five markers.

Kabayan had 16 unforced errors and a service error in the first set alone which it reduced to five and two in the second and had nine and three in the last set. CEGYCC Release
