The Baguio City Little League earned the right to represent the city in the upcoming Batang Pinoy National final after sweeping Pilipinas Highlander at the Benguet Sports Complex on Sept. 12 and 13.
Composed of student-athletes from Doña Aurora, Irisan, Guisad Valley, and Baguio City High School, the DepEd Baguio squad dominated the best-of-three series to earn the right to represent the Summer Capital in the annual sports competition for 15 – years – old and below in Bacolod City from Dec. 12 to 18.
Baguio City set the tone in Game 1 with a 13-7 victory, forcing the Highlanders to concede in the top of the sixth inning.
The team then sealed the championship title in Game 2 with a 7-0 blowout, as the Highlanders conceded once again in the sixth inning.
Karl Dizon anchored Baguio City’s dominant run with stellar pitching and defensive play, while also flexing his power at the plate with a two-run home run.
Karl Dave Amistad matched the feat with his own two-run homer, while pitchers Dylan Isaac Asperin and Marcus Advincula, alongside catcher Yusuff Kidsolan, provided crucial defensive support.
Rainzeky Sinakey pitched strongly for the Pilipinas Highlanders alongside team captain Shear Khan Senense, but their efforts went to naught.
Coached by Bernardito Danglay, Randy Lapena, Whilmore Jalbuena, and Rafael Lapena, the championship squad extended its gratitude to the Baguio City Sports Office, led by Elly Rhuze Yasmaid Justine Luis, and the DepEd umpires, under tournament director Alejo Pacalso, for supporting the event.
