Sablan stays unbeaten after dumping Kabayan

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Abigail Cunanan is fast proving that she is the best setter in the Baguio-Benguet area as she had 23 excellent sets to lead Sablan to 25-19, 25-15, 25-16 sweep of Kabayan in the Cong. Eric Go Yap Congressional Cup – Benguet Women’s Volleyball League at the Benguet Sports Complex here Sunday.

With her excellent sets, Cunanan, who fired eight points on two attack points and six aces, Anna Mae Laruan and Jhessalyn Bayao scored 14 and 13 points, respectively for the 52 minutes victory that came without Jasmyne Polon.

Laruan, who celebrates her birthday, was vicious in her attacks where she made 13 and had just one ace.

Bayao was also equally devastating as her production came mostly from attacks – 11 – and two aces.

Hanna Mae Dumpit arrived late and started playing only in the second set but chipped in nine on five attack points, all in the third set, and four aces.

It was Sablan’s ninth victory with Atok, Tublay and arch rival Kapangan the remaining unplayed opponents. The last is expected to be a showdown of the rivals from a tournament last year and which Sablan won.

Sheryl Estal scored six – four attack points and two aces – all in the first set and never came back.

No Kabayan player scored in double digit with Heaven Leigh Benito top scoring on two attack points, two aces and three blocks.

Kabayan fell to 3-6 and small window for the last quarterfinals seat which it still needs to contest against Mankayan. CEGYCC Release
