KAPANGAN, Benguet – Powerhouse Sablan vacillated in the second, but regained its composure in the third to beat Tuba in four sets at the municipal gym here in the Cong. Eric Go Yap Congressional Cup – Benguet Women’s V-League Sunday here.
Jasmyne Joyce Polon exploded for 24 points built on 21 kills and three service aces to power Sablan to a 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 25-11 win in one hour and 20 minutes.
Sheryl Mae Estal backed her Baguio College of Technology team mate with 14 points on seven kills, three aces and four blocks as Sablan earned its fourth win and the only unbeaten squad in the event backed by Rep. Yap, the ACT-CIS Partylist, the office of Gov. Melchor Diclas and the Media for Sports Development.
Tuba welcomed Mary Ann Atuban as the former University of Baguio Cardinal had an explosive debut as she scored 18 points built on 14 kills, three aces and a block.
It was Atuban who gave Sablan a run for its money in the first set as she shook of the rustiness of her not playing competitively. She last saw action for UB in a losing effort against BCT 2019, the first Baguio Benguet Educational League title for the latter and when Polon was a rookie.
Shannel Toledo added nine for Tuba, which lost for the first time in the league, and it came after the five-set victory over Tublay last Wednesday in La Trinidad.
“We lost our composure in the second set where we had difficulty in returning the ball. We failed to communicate with each other since we had not seen each other since our victory over La Trinidad the other week,” said the Sablan captain.
“Finally, I get to play. I just arrived from Cagayan and will be reporting at our Baguio office starting Monday,” said Atuban, who like older sister Cherry, UB’s former setter, is now Department of Public Works and Highways employee before game time started. CEGYCC Release
