Southern singer Romeo Ogong, now faces multiple criminal complaints before the Baguio City Prosecutor’s Office following comments during a wake in March.
Filed Wednesday, May 14, 2026, the complaints alleged violations of Republic Act No. 11313 (the Safe Spaces Act or Bawal Bastos Law), Grave Oral Defamation, and Unjust Vexation, stemming from public comments Ogong allegedly made during a wake at the Resurrection Church along Magsaysay Avenue in the afternoon of March 23, 2026.
The mother of one of the aggrieved parties, filed an affidavit-complaint detailing how Ogong allegedly publicly humiliated her daughter and son-in-law in front of mourners.
“It is clearly indecent for Romeo Ogong to publicly discuss through the microphone an intimately private and personal concern of my daughter and her husband. Without my daughter’s consent and in violation of her and her husband’s privacy;” stated in the affidavit.
“Romeo Ogong socially humiliated and inflicted mental anguish upon my daughter and us, her family, and our suffering is aggravated because he is now addressing the incident on social media falsely and self-servingly narrating that his offer is decent, conveniently omitting to say that he was laughing while offering “help”, after noticing that my daughter’s husband had left the room. “
The mother alleged that the family’s distress was compounded when Ogong took to social media to defend his actions and asserted Ogong openly discussed private family matters without consent, violating their privacy and unjustly vexing her via public Facebook comments.
Prior to taking legal action, the family reportedly attempted to resolve the issue outside of court.
According to the complaint, a formal letter was sent to Ogong on April 30, 2026, giving him an opportunity to issue a public apology. However, Ogong reportedly rejected the offer during a meeting at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Baguio Regional Office, stating he was ready to face the accusations in court.
Legal counsel for Ogong, legal counsel, Atty. Ranjan Kalyl Umaking Wanget said they have yet to file a counter affidavit and quoted the bible verse John 8:7, “He who has no sin, cast the first stone,” when asked for comment on the complaints before the city prosecutor. Maria Elena Catajan
