Pangasinan bats to become filmmaking hub

Lingayen, Pangasinan – A festival is poised to transform the province into a hub for film excellence.

The first film festival dubbed as PangaSine was launched April 6 to 8, 2024 themed “Pangasinan through the lens of the Pangasinense,” aimed to encourage creativity and tap talent and transform the province into a filmmaking hub.

National Artists for Film Kidlat Tahimik said “Importante, hanapin niyo yung genius ng indigenous. Yung lakas ng kultura ng ating sariling mga sulok ng bayan.”

The three-day festival featured a filmmaking workshop aimed to mentor potential filmmakers in the province.

Nars Santos, Festival Director said “As a Pangasinense and a lover of the artform, I hope that PangaSine Film Festival will be able to nurture the fundamentals for the Pangasinense filmmakers to develop their skills in filmmaking and eventually produce films that articulate the hopes and dreams of the Pangasinenses.”

Pangasinan, a brainchild of Pangasinan First Lady Maan Tuazon Guico and featured a filmmaking workshop aimed at enriching and highlighting the local culture.

Over a hundred filmmakers from various towns of the province joined the 3 day filmmaking workshop, “Hulmaan Na Pelikula,” which featured mentoring from industry leaders with Filmmaking Workshop on Documentary Production by Baby Ruth Villarama; Film Appreciation and Film Festival Management by Edward Delos Santos Cabagnot; Screenwiting by Moira Lang; Directing by Zig Dulay; Cinematography by Richard Dico Cawed; Film Editing by Jay Halili; and Sound Editing or Design by Jonathan Q. Hee.

Santos said “I am grateful to the Pangasinan government for providing this opportunity to be a part in originating PangaSine, the official film festival of the province of Pangasinan.”

PangaSine 2024 featured Short Films in Exhibition and Filmmakers in various categories.
