KBP celebrates “Oplan BroadcasTreeing”

Broadcasters are environmental stewards.

Over 50 members of the Kapisanan ng Brodkasters ng Pilipinas (KBP) Baguio Benguet chapter planted 100 pine tree saplings and coffee seeds at barangay South Drive, August 17, 2024 as part of “Oplan broadcasTreeing,” an advocacy to help lessen, prevent, and hopefully stop climate change.

Led by led LetLet Dela Cruz and KBP chair Rico John Ferrer, Oplan BroadcasTreeing is an annual event aimed to promote environmental awareness and responsibility.

Ferrer said “The whole KBP organization, from different chapters of our country does this annual event as part of the advocacy of the organization to battle the effects of climate change. This is also our way promoting tourism in Baguio and Benguet since one of the reasons why visitors love our city and province, is because of our nature, trees and weather and an avenue where broadcasters from different competing stations would unite for a common cause. With the threats of the effects of climate change, we as broadcasters in Baguio-Benguet proudly “walk our talk,” we keep on saying on air that we should protect our environment by planting trees, and every year we see to it that what we say on air should be practiced.”

The Baguio Tourism Council (BTC) has partnered with the KBP in promoting responsible tourism at the grassroots level, making the KBP’s Oplan BroadcasTreeing one of many activities to preserve local forest covers.

BTC Chair, Gladys Vergara said “Caring for our forest resources will help instill a love for our natural environment, let us persevere in doing our part in caring for our environment, by conserving our natural mountain assets, we can attract more tourists, providing them with opportunities to engage in meaningful activities where they, too, can contribute.”

KBP Baguio Benguet chapter is comprised of one television station and 15 A.M. and F.M. radio stations; 89.5 Star FM Baguio – Philippines, 91.9 Easy Rock Baguio, 93.7 MHz EQ FM Radyo Pilipinas Baguio, FM Radio (formerly FMR Baguio 94.3), 95.1 Love Radio Baguio, 95.9 Big Sound FM, 96.7 K-Lite FM Baguio, 99.9 Country FM DZWR, 103.9 iFM Baguio, Baguio Memo-Rie-S FM 107.1,DZWT 540, Bombo Radyo Philippines Baguio, RPN DZBS Baguio, Regional News Group – RNG Luzon, ABS-CBN Baguio / MORe – Luzon (MOR Entertainment).

Ferrer said “To all KBP Member stations, and our accredited broadcasters in radio and tv, let us continue our service to our listeners and viewers with ethics and responsibility. As we are faced with technological advancement, we must adopt to it in a way that the ethics of the KBP Code. Together, let us shape a better world through responsible broadcasting.”

KBP partners for “Oplan broadcasTreeing,” are the Philippine Red Cross Baguio Chapter, Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco), City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO), headed by Attorney Rhenan Diwas and CEPMO Officer Floro Bastian, City Government of Baguio, Heaven on Earth Vegetarian Center, Hotel Supreme Mall and Events Center, led by Peter Ng, Baguio Tourism Council, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines and SM City Baguio.
