Gabriela Kalinga calls for justice over death of Irene Gayamos

A call for justice has been made for Irene Campilis Gayamos.

A manhunt is ongoing after Gayamos, was fatally stabbed in her home Wednesday afternoon in what is suspected to be either a robbery or targeted attack.

Gayamos, 30-years-old and a resident of Employees Village, Purok 4, was discovered by a witness in a pool of blood inside her residence at Purok 6, Bulanao, at approximately 2:39 PM on November 12.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team, led by PCPT Tacad, processed the location for evidence. The Tabuk CPS is currently intensifying its investigation by locating adjacent establishments with CCTVs and monitoring persons of interest involved in previous robbery and theft incidents who have recently been released on bail.

The ongoing investigation is being handled by IOC PMSg Raldwin Jones Sanchez.

Innabuyog Gabriela Kalinga – a provincial alliance of various community-based associations of women in Kalinga strongly condemn in the highest possible terms the cold-blooded murder of Gayamos, that occurred in a broad daylight in Bulanao, Tabuk City! This is blatant violence against women and children! Ms. Irene, a sister, a wife and a mother, now unjustly separated forever from her husband, daughter and family.

In a statement Innabuyog Gabriela Kalinga said “As yKalinga, we believe in the values of paniyaw, ngilin and bain. We have high regard to women as they are the life giver of our tribe. This incident is a taboo to our culture especially so Tabuk City is dubbed as the “City of Life, and call upon women leaders to consolidate our ranks to pursue our demand for justice as we urge the law enforcement to implement a thorough and swift investigation to address this crime and strengthen measures to prevent precedent cases of unjust killings and violence in the future.”

According to a report from the Tabuk City Police Station, 20-year-old witness Salvador Gammong Campilis found Gayamos lying in a supine position after unlocking the main door and proceeding upstairs. The victim was immediately rushed by personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital.

Gayamos was pronounced dead on arrival at 3:03 PM by Dr. Prescille Mae Dapeg. The attending physician certified the cause of death as hemorrhagic shock secondary to multiple stab wounds.

Initial investigation suggests the unidentified suspect gained entry to the home through a small opening gap on the side of the house. The assailant is believed to have exited the premises by jumping from an access door located on the second floor before escaping the scene.

Innabuyog Gabriela Kalinga vows to protect the rights of women and children in all forms of violence as we recognize the significant role of women in community building. We sincerely pray for the realization of justice as soon as possible as we mourn with the family of the victim!
