DOH launch “Bakuna Recorida” in La Union

The Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region and the and the local government of Agoo, La Union yesterday launched the “Rekorida Bakuna Campaign” to further strengthen community health by promoting vaccination and urging parents and caregivers to ensure complete routine immunization for their children under 5 years old.

Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco emphasized the importance of routine vaccination among children and encourage parents to have their children immunized to ensure their health and well-being.

“Fifty years na pong namimigay ng libreng bakuna ang DOH at napatunayan po natin na ang mga bakunang binibigay ng ating gobyerno ay ligtas at dekalidad. Kaya tangkilikin po natin ang mga ito at ipabakuna ang ating mga anak sa pinakamalapit na health center sa inyong lugar upang sila ay mabigyan ng proteksiyon laban sa sakit.”

Sydiongco also stated the value of vaccines in saving children’s lives. “This is the time to restore our faith and trust in our vaccines because it has saved countless of lives, especially during the pandemic. Ligtas po ang ating mga bakuna. Magtiwala po tayo sa kakayahan nitong makapagbigay ng proteksiyon sa ating mga anak upang sila ay lumaking malusog at ligtas.”

A total of 200 children were targeted represented by the 49 barangays of Agoo during the launching campaign held at the Jose D. Aspiras Civic Center.on April 23, 2024.

Agoo Mayor Frank Ong Sibuma said the Agoo LGU will continue to provide support to the DOH’s public health programs, especially the immunization campaign. activities.

The “Rekorida Bakuna” campaign is aligned with the DOH goal of achieving 95% immunization coverage against vaccine-preventable diseases. It is under the DOH Health Promotion Framework Strategy PA 3 – Bakuna Champion. It is a live public announcement by LGUs, an effective means of catching the attention of the public especially in the rural areas and remote barangays.

Playing Recorida or Bandillo is done with the use of mobile transportation or by marching around the barangay with the use of megaphones that includes playing of the Bakuna jingle and giving out flyers to parents and caregivers on the importance of completing the Routine Immunization of children and informing them that vaccines are free and available at the health centers every day of the week.

This year’s World Immunization Week commemorated the 50-year milestone of the Essential Program of Immunization, a global initiative ensuring equitable access to vaccines for all eligible children, ultimately advancing the vision of a Healthy Pilipinas. NLMonitor
