After securing the gold medal in the secondary girl’s discus throw event, Benguet’s Theasallonica Hacyabon hopes to further her record after besting last year’s Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association gold medalist.
Hacyabon heaved a distance of 27.15 meters in the throwing event, edging 2024 gold medalist and fellow Benguet athlete Feria Pinao-an who settled for a silver with a throw of 25.89, just .52 farther from the 25.37 distance she threw last year.
“I’m happy with the results since I was able to improve my personal record,” Hacyabon said in the ongoing CARAA regional sports meet being held in La Trinidad, Benguet where bulk of the sports event, including athletics, are played at the Benguet Sports Complex.
Grabbing bronze is Kalinga’s April Joy Miranda after throwing a distance of 24.7
“I will train harder, hopefully I can still improve and throw further, at least 30 meters,” added Hacyabon in local dialect after earning a spot for the Palarong Pambansa later this year to be staged in Ilocos Norte.
Tabuk City meanwhile had a field day in athletics competition with Jemuel Loyd Aggalao winning the first gold in the five day regional sports meet after topping the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17 minutes and 17.52 seconds while Benguet’s Chem Chesney Tatpi-ec clocked 17’42″24 to settle for silver while Jeric Lito Daketan of Mt. Province salvaged bronze with a time of 18’00″01.
Mark Lister Taloza then followed it up with another gold after leaping a distance of 6.59 meters to top the long jump secondary boys division.
Abra’s Marlon Klayd Regunton’s 6.29 jump was good for silver while Mt. Province’ Windel Josh Sigang had to settle for bronze with his 6.27.
Apayao also barged into the medal standings after May Ann Pedronan and Jana Parao finished 1-2 in the 3,000 meters with a time of 12 minutes, 22.09 seconds and 12’49″46 respectively.
Settling for bronze is Abra’s Lynzel Libeng with a time of 12’58″95. Roderick Osis
