Baguio youth groups eyes repeat of “And So it Begins”

After a sold-out block screening of “And So it Begins,” Kaya Natin! Youth – Baguio (KNY- Baguio) eyes a repeat.

Mark Ryan Montes, Head Convener and core member said “KNY-Baguio City extends its gratitude to all sponsors and participants who joined with our sold-out block screening of And So it Begins. And together we’ve made a difference.”

The September 8 screening at Cinema 1, SM City Baguio of the documentary film on the 2022 presidential campaign of former vice president Leni Robredo directed by Ramona Diaz was a full house with 500 seats sold.

The film recounts the beginnings of the Robredo campaign for the presidency and the beginning of the people’s movement which carried the entire bid.

Robredo, after the failed attempt at the presidency, founded Angat Pinas, Inc. (commonly known as Angat Buhay), a Filipino non-profit organization that aims to empower Filipinos to become communities of active citizens by mobilizing the largest volunteer network in implementing Bayanihan programs.

Angat Buhay traces its roots as a government program under the Office of the Vice President of the Philippines that had several successful initiatives and projects.

The block screening is a fundraising initiative for KNY-Baguio’s future programs and events aimed at engaging and uplifting the youth, proceeds will fuel various initiatives that focus on leadership development, community service, and advocacy.

Montes said “The funds raised will be used by investing in these future events. We aim to create more opportunities for youth to develop skills, raise awareness on important national and local issues, and build connections.”

In July, Robredo sojourned to the mountain city to thank 2022 campaign volunteers urging youth groups to advocate to promote transparency, accountability, people’s participation and electoral reform all centered around fostering a stronger, more engaged community. Maria Elena Catajan
