Baguio traksters showing way as defending champs surge on top

Baguio runners remain a force to reckon with as they continue to wreck havoc in the athletics competition of the ongoing Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) at the Benguet Sports Complex in La Trinidad.

Xyndrex Chris Orinion clocked 51.34 seconds to win the gold medal in the 400 meter – dash secondary boys, edging his teammate Elijah Kingaw who was just slower by microseconds after crossing the finish line with a time of 52.94 seconds.

Benguet’s Mhar Jhune Confessal earned the bronze, finishing with a strong 54.12 second performance.

In the 110-meter high hurdles for secondary boys, John Edward Carbonnel finished first with a time of 15.52 seconds while his teammate Yulhexis Rocili, took the bronze after clocking a time of 16.32.

Mt. Province’s Nathan Malabato secured second place after checking in at 16.25 seconds.

Sprinters Leishen Kate Masangkay and Cytelle Anne Armendi also made their mark in the ongoing regional sports meet after finishing first and second in the 400 meter – dash secondary girls.

Masangkay finished first with a time of one minute, 2.44 seconds, while Armendi followed closely behind, crossing the finish line at one minute and 3.25 seconds.

Benguet’s Greda Cholin earned the bronze medal, delivering a strong performance with a personal best time of 1 minute, 5.46 seconds.

In the elementary division, Benguet’s Vaughn Casey Bayasan and Zian Zahid Kaligtan delivered a powerful performance in the 400-meter dash.

Bayasan secured the gold with a time of 1’3”82, while Kaligtan set a personal best of 1’4”47 with Baguio’s Prinz Yhannel Mandap taking home the bronze after finishing 1the race with a time of 1’6”41.

As of 2:00 PM today, based on the partial results of the ongoing CARAA meet released by Deped – CAR, Baguio City still holds the top spot with 38 gold medals, 24 silvers, and 20 bronze.

Host Benguet meanwhile is showing a strong start with its 14 gold medals to trail Baguio in the over-all team standings including 20 silvers and 8 bronze medals.

Last year’s runner – up is alos at close third with its eight gold medal output that includes four silver and 11 bronze.

Ifugao is currently at fifth with its 5-6-11 medal output followed by Abra with 3-5-4, Tabuk (3-3-4), Kalinga (2-7-10) and Mt. Province who has yet to win a gold medal in the competition while earning  three silvers and five bronze. Roderick Osis
