Baguio lords CARAA Meet anew

LUNA, APAYAO — Baguio City showed who’s the boss in the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA).

The summer capital convincingly topped CARAA in dominating the over-all medal standings, running away with 238 gold based on the Department of Education’s official final medal tally.

Baguio E-Lions also bagged 111 silvers and 72 bronze medals in the weeklong tournament for elementary and high school students.

Host Apayao retained its first runner-up finish in the over – all standings with 62 golds, 74 silvers and 107 bronze medals.

The Eagles once again banked on gymnastics in the elementary division with 15 gold medals while its secondary squad took home 14.

Athletics also carted away four in the secondary division while bagging five in the elementary division with the secondary chess girls taking 3 out of the four gold medals at stake in the competition.

Benguet, meanwhile is at distant third winning 50 golds, 91 silvers and 89 bronze medals.

The Stingers made a run in elementary athletics and gymnastics with six golds each while the secondary squad made significant gold medal haul in wrestling, pencak silat and sepak takraw with six each .

Ifugao Builders on the other hand climbed to number four after finishing with 27-37-62 medal haul while Abra Stallions is in decent fifth having 16-32-48.

Kalinga Bulls finished with 14-31-57, landing them sixth in the over – all standings while Tabuk City Buffaloes hauled 12-18-35 coming in at seventh.

Mountain Province Brave Mountaineers placed last after securing 5-27-47 medal haul.

Revsee Escobedo, DepEd’s undersecretary for governance and field operations meanwhile lauded the provincial government of Apayao for a successful hosting of CARAA.

“Sports is a society, culture, economy and every facet of modern life. That is why we give importance to hosting sporting events like the CARAA because sports are loved, it is a popular arena in which to grow a career,” Escobedo told athletes during the opening program April 15.

Escobedo added these regional athletic meet is the right avenue to showcase every athlete’s talent and firmly believe that Cordillera, the home of braves and the patriots will conquer the 2024 edition of the Palarong Pambansa in Cebu City. Roderick Osis
