All 129 barangays of Baguio City received ₱25.8 million in financial assistance under the national Bawat Barangay Makikinabang Program during a recent ceremony at Baguio City Hall.
The funds, drawn from the Office of the President’s Socio-Civic Projects Fund (SCPF), allocated ₱200,000 for each barangay to support educational assistance programs for students and priority community development initiatives.
The turnover ceremony was led by Rep. Mauricio Domogan, Mayor Benjamin Magalong, and Vice – Mayor Faustino Olowan.
Benjamin Macadangdang, representing the City Mayor’s Office, announced the fund release.
“For the 129 barangays in the City of Baguio, each barangay will be distributed the amount of ₱200,000,” Macadangdang said.
Baguio City Liga ng mga Barangay City president Rocky Aliping expressed gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for the release of the SCPF, which is now ready for implementation to support development initiatives in the city’s barangays.
The soft component is for Bagong Pilipinas Barangay Scholarship wherein each barangay will receive ₱100,000 for educational assistance intended primarily for deserving indigent graduating college students.
Qualified beneficiaries may receive ₱20,000 each, subject to the implementing rules and regulations, he said.
The other ₱100,000 is allocated for hard projects or Barangay Development and Equipment, including procurement of CCTV cameras, solar-powered streetlights, computers, laptops, mono block chairs, and other priority equipment identified by the barangays.
Aliping said all expenditures will be monitored and undergo the required government budgeting, accounting, and auditing processes.
To ensure that financial assistance is spent judiciously, barangays are required to enact appropriation ordinances, properly liquidate expenditures, and submit terminal reports to the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the City Accounting and Budget Office.
