Apayao athletes who competed in the second leg of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association led by its volleyball squad received their cash incentives over the weekend.
In report by the Public Information Office of the Province of Apayao, Governor Elias Bulut, Jr. led the distribution of cash incentives.
After reclaiming the gold medal, Apayao’s volleybelles, composed of 21 players from the elementary and secondary division were given P10,000 each while the coaches was P3,000 richer.
Out of the 21 athletes, twelve were from Alem Elementary School and nine were from Pudtol Vocational High School.
Apayao bagged 52 gold medals, 54 silvers and 86 bronze medals to retain its first runner-up finish behind power house Baguio in the annual regional games.
Bulut expressed his admiration for the athletes’ courageous spirit in bringing honor to the province and encouraged them to continue their journey by dedicating more time to enhancing their skills. He also commended the coaches for bringing out the best in their trainees.
Elementary teacher and coach, Myrien Agustin, thanked Bulut and expressed her gratitude to the provincial government.
“Our supportive governor for this generous reward given to our young athletes during CARAA. It greatly helps them improve their skills, provides the necessary equipment for future competitions, and shows that our province is there to support them,” Agustin said.
Apayao’s spikers nearly swept the volleyball competition after taking the gold medals in elementary girls and boys including secondary girls.
The Eagles defeated their fierce volleyball rivals Baguio City in three intense championship matches last June 4. Hosted by the province, the two-day regional sports meet held in EKB Gymnasium in Pudtol witnessed the rise of Apayao volleyball squads who proved to be an unstoppable force throughout the tournament.
In elementary girls, team Apayao, represented by Alem Elementary School (AES) outplayed team Baguio in a three-set thriller filled with intense rallies and breathtaking plays. Baguio’s boys squad also suffered the same fate when it came tumbling down against the kids from the Kabugao Central School (KCS) squad in the elementary boys category after a hard-fought championship match.
In May, Bulut and Department of Education Apayao Superintendent Benedicta Gamatero led the turnover of P3 million cash incentive in recognition and reward for the hard work and dedication of the students who won in the different events and competitions of the CARAA. NLMonitor
