La Trinidad to serve ‘triple’ strawberry cake at festival

Not one, not two, but three.

Benguet’s capital town of La Trinidad is preparing a “triple” treat for its annual Strawberry Festival, planning to serve three massive cakes to the public on March 29.

Councilor Belmer Elis, chairman of the municipal tourism committee, said organizers are in the planning and design stages for the three cakes, which are expected to provide 10,000 slices.

“We are looking at serving triple strawberry cakes,” Elis said during the festival’s opening ceremonies.

The move is the latest innovation for the town, which earned a Guinness World Record in 2004 for the world’s largest strawberry shortcake.

In recent years, the festival has featured twin cakes, strawberry cupcakes, and a cake designed after the “kayabang,” a traditional Ibaloi basket.

The festival, which runs through April 1, serves as a primary tourism draw for the municipality, often beginning just as the neighboring Baguio Flower Festival concludes.

With the theme Limitless La Trinidad: Heart, Harvest, Harmony, the festival will center on tourism promotion showcasing One-Town, One-Product,  the unique eco-tourism destinations through the various events and activities and encouraging active community participation.

Mayor Roderick Awingan and Vice Mayor Guiler Galwan led the kick off activities March 4 at the municipal grounds.

Several events showcasing the strawberry and other agricultural products of the town will also be part of the monthlong festivity.

Strawberry farmers and growers will showcase the “best strawberries” in the municipality with the search for the heaviest and sweetest strawberry at the municipal grounds on March 13.

Another highlight of the festival is the drum and lyre competition, the street dancing and the float parade including the Mr. and Ms. La Trinidad pre-pageant will be on March 21.

The grand coronation night of the Ms. And Ms. La Trinidad will be held at the Benguet Sports Complex in Wangal on March 31 at 6PM while closing and awarding ceremonies will be on April 1, 2026. Roderick Osis
