Sabtang, Batanes – Locals highlighted the culture and heritage of Batanes during its founding anniversary.
The “vakul,” a headdress from female and “kanayi,” a natural fiber coat for men used since time immemorial and an iconic symbol hand crafted for protection used by Ivatan farmers of Batanes as protection from the harsh weather as they toil their farms.
The foundation day, on April 29, coincided with the 180th Feast of St Vincent Ferrer the Patron Saint of Sabtang with a cultural presentation of music, dance and a procession of iconic Statues of St Vincent Ferrer held by devotees.
The event was well attended by visitors from adjoining municipalities of Batanes. By Dave Leprozo Jr.
