Baguio City continue to re-assert its dominance in the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association as it romped away with the over-all title anew with Benguet as host
Summer Capital bets took home 225 gold medals, 13 golds short from last year’s output but was more than enough to retake the over-all title it has held since CARAA was first played early 90s while it also bagged 107 silvers and 56 bronze.
Baguio tankers once again ruled the swimming competitions at the newly constructed Benguet Aquatic Center in La Trinidad with 61 gold medals including 37 silvers and 12 bronze.
Arnisadores also delivered for the city with its 26-5-2 medal output while taekwondo had 25 golds including two silvers with gymnastics adding 19-10-11 medals.
Athletics (19-8-5), dance sports (14-9-1) and archery (10-7-7) also chipped in to Baguio’s over-all medal output including wushu (7 golds 2 bronze), badminton (6 golds, 2 silvers), boxing (4-2-1) and pencak silat with five gold medals.
Benguet made a leap from third to second over – all with their improved 79 golds, 106 silvers and 88 bronze medals.
Athletics proved to be a catalyst for the province as it took home 15-9-8 in the elementary division while its counterpart in the secondary brought home 8-10-24, thanks to the throwing and running events.
Aside from athletics, also delivering the medals for the elementary division are arnis (4-10), sepak takraw (2 golds), swimming (3-5-4) and tennis (2-0-1) for its 38-46-34 medal haul.
In the secondary division archery (2-8-6), basketball (2 golds), billiards (3-2-0), boxing (3-0-6), chess (3-2-2), dance sports (5-7-0), pencak silat (3-3-3), sepak takraw (3 golds), taekwondo (2-1) and wrestling (5-1-5) for a total of 43-61-53 gold-silver-bronze tally.
Sliding back to third is Apayao as it managed to bring home 36 gold medals, 50 silvers and 83 bronze medals, a far cry from their 62-74-107 medal output last year.
At fourth place is Ifugao with 28-35-61 while Abra finished fifth with its 25-50-102 medal output as Mountain Province moved out of the cellar this time winning 13 golds, 25 silvers and 39 bronze.
Tabuk City also had 13 golds while bagging 22 silvers and 49 bronze medals while Kalinga went home with four golds, 25 silvers and 44 bronze. Roderick Osis
