Mt. Camisong unveils clean energy hub; opens new indoor events hall

ITOGON, BENGUET — Mt. Camisong Forest Park and Events has taken a major step in its sustainability effort with the launching of its several clean energy initiatives.

On July 14, 2025, the premier tourist destination in the Cordillera region held a blessing ceremony for its new solar photovoltaic (PV) system, electric shuttles, EV charging stations, and a newly completed indoor events hall marking another milestone for Mt. Camisong’s sustainability effort.

“Today marks another milestone for Mt Camisong Property Management Inc as we celebrate the blessing and inauguration of our sustainability projects that will aid us in responsibly and sustainably operating Mt Camisong Forest Park and Events,” says Mt. Camisong President Oliver Samala.

“The park is now 100% solar powered,” added Mt. Camisong Chairman Ludette  Querubin proclaims.

Sustainability in the forefront

Since opening its doors in February this year, Mt. Camisong has embraced sustainability as a natural part of their operations, implementing intentional and eco-conscious architecture design to minimizing waste in their kitchens.

This July marks the continuation of this commitment as the park activates its solar photovoltaic (PV) system, panels that convert sunlight into electrical energy from INVENIC Inc. Mounted on a supporting structure at the park’s entrance, the solar panels double as the roof of Mt. Camisong’s parking space.

The project involves the installation and operation of 363 solar panels, each with a peak capacity of 555 watts, resulting in a total system capacity of approximately 201 kW of clean, renewable electricity.

“To highlight the significance of this initiative, the current average demand load for Phase 1 structures is around 85 kW. Even with the full operation of all Phase 1 and 2 structures, the solar power system will still be sufficient to sustain efficient operations, relying entirely on renewable energy. Moreover, the system is designed to maintain at least 80% of its original 201 kW capacity over a lifespan of 15 to 20 years, ensuring long-term energy security and sustainability for the facility,” Samala added.

In addition to this, Mt. Camisong recently launched two units of 22kW AC Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations, a project made possible with ACMobility, designed to encourage hybrid car and EV owners to visit the park in a more sustainable way.

Connecting communities

Guests who opt to reach the park via public transport may also support its sustainability goals by using the park’s first-of-its-kind electric jeepney, designed locally by Filipino legacy brand Francisco Motors Corp. and manufactured internationally. Patterned after the revived PINOY Transporter, the vehicle is built not only for sustainability, but also for climate resilience, providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation even in the face of extreme weather.

The new electric shuttle will soon operate a route from Baguio to the park and back. Beyond offering a practical transport solution, this initiative supports the park’s commitment to the community by enhancing connectivity between Baguio and Itogon.

“We have the first of two EV shuttles that will be ferrying our employees to and from work from Baguio to Mt. Camisong and vice versa. And in between, we will be offering scheduled free rides from Baguio to Mt. Camisong to guests. This will make Camisong even more accessible to Baguio residents and tourists,” Querubin said.

A space for camaraderie, creativity

Just in time for the rainy weather, Mt. Camisong opens the doors of Kanlungan Hall, an indoor events space ideal for workshops, small team building activities, corporate meetings, and the like.

The Filipino word for shelter, Kanlungan Hall aims to be a safe space to foster camaraderie and a haven for creativity and self-renewal. The 64 square meter events place is the perfect size for dynamic seminars, creative workshops, corporate meetings, intimate gatherings, and the like.

“Kanlungan Hall is the first and the smallest events and function hall that we are opening for Phase 2,” Querubin explains. “Kanlungan Hall will be able to accommodate 40-50 pax for sit down parties and up to 60 for classroom style conferences or meetings. This can also be the venue for workshops and other gatherings especially during the rainy season.”

Tourist destination like no other

Since opening its gates in February of this year, Mt. Camisong Forest Park and Events has held space for people to reconnect with nature and the outdoors while enjoying world-class facilities and meaningful experiences. Here, guests are invited to slow down, immerse in the natural environment of the Cordilleran mountains, and build lasting connections.

A sanctuary where guests find fulfillment in the shared celebration of our natural heritage, Mt. Camisong continues to be a park like no other.

“We will continue to spread awareness to our guests through this area and ensure that Mt Camisong’s message goes beyond ecotourism,” Ms. Querubin says. “Hopefully, we can be a seed of change in the hearts and minds of every person that visits this park to realize that we can only continue to enjoy the beauty of nature if we take care of it.”
