SLU Navigators hand PMA Cavs another loss

Saint Louis University was all business as it handed the Philippine Military Academy its back – to – back loss in the men’s basketball of the ongoing Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League Season 36.

The Navigators jumped to a 9 – 3 lead with 7:39 remaining in the opening canto before closing out the Cavaliers, 95 – 55, at the CCDC gymnasium Sunday evening.

Navigators head coach Raymund Austria summed up his match – up against the Cavaliers as a good build up as they go deep into the season and take on tougher opponents that include defending champion Cordillera Career Development College Admirals, the University of Baguio Cardinals, and the University of the Cordilleras Jaguars.

“I told them to focus on their defense because good defense can lead to good offense,” said Austria.

From a six – point margin in the first three minutes of the ball game, the Navigators went on a scoring binge on a 26 – 13 run that include four triples, three from Angelo Cacho and from Aaron Velarde.

Cacho finished the game with 24 markers, all on eight three’s and drew support from Sean Ace Salom and Salvador Franz Nino Aquino who both added 12 points each while Zen Aundri Carreon added 10.

Although the Cavaliers where trailing 69 – 44 at the end of the third period, PMA was able to outscore the Navigators, 22 – 15, after being behind by as high as 32 during half time.

It was Cadet Bendell Clavince Macarilay who kept charging for the Cavs with his team high 23 points with

Joshua Montefalcon and Robby Franz Cresencio chipping in eight markers each.

Earlier, Baguio College of Technology Atoms barely escaped Season 36 host Baguio Central University Eagles, 84 – 83.

After trailing by eight at halftime, 34 – 42, the Atoms turn things around in the second half, outscoring the Eagles, 50 – 41, for their second straight win after downing PMA Saturday evening.

Adrian Cauton and Fruto Luzadas carried the Atoms with 24 points each as Julius Tapac added 12 while Jayson De Vera had nine markers in the ball game.

Kenneth Damogo led the Eagles with a game high of 26 points while Micheal John Tamayo and Rod Vincent Ollado had 14 and 10 apiece with Jezrel Bugayong adding nine. Roderick Osis
