Colas is most bemedalled for Cordillera as region improves to 9th place in Palaro

Chass Mhaiven Colas rewrote two archery records, helping Cordillera Administrative Region improve it’s over – all standing as the 65th edition of the Palarong Pambansa comes to a close May 31 in Ilocos Norte.

Colas secured the gold medal in the 50-meter distance after scoring 328 points, breaking the 2024 record set by National Capital Region’s Lawrence Ckheil Enecio.

The Baguio City National High School student nearly hit all his marks as he scored 1319 points in the 1440 Single Fita round, erasing Region 1’s Jason Emmanuel Feliciano’s 1304 recorded in 2019 then added another gold after topping the 70-meter distance and a silver in the 30-meter distance becoming the region’s most bemedalled athlete.

Zion Ysabelle Buenviaje and Chezka Nicollete Luzadas who both took home two gold medals each in taekwondo also made their presence felt in charging Cordillera to a decent ninth place finish over – all with 17 golds, 13 silvers, and 11 bronze medals.

As usual, taekwondo took home the most gold medals with nine including five silvers and two bronze while archery had four including one from Emy Angela Peredo, who took home a gold medal in the 70-meter distance.

Wushu on the other hand had three gold medals courtesy of Aron Dulos, Joelle Peñaflor, and Xiviel Bantali while adding two silvers and two bronze apiece.

Wrestling meanwhile had one gold, courtesy of Charles Johnson Calawen including one silver and four bronze while badminton had one silver and a bronze.

Arnis added a silver and a bronze with athletics taking home one silver while Pencak Silat win a bronze.

CAR’s elementary baseball meanwhile had a magical run, reaching the quarterfinals for the first time in the history of Palaro.

After sweeping their four assignments in the eliminations round, CAR faltered against Western Visayas in the Quarterfinals, 4-3 before vowing to Soccksargen Region in the battle for bronze, 5-4.

Cordillera has yet to equal its highest medal output garnered in 2016 with 26 gold medals including 21 silvers and 21 bronzes with the region placing sixth over – all.

CAR’s highest finish however was in 2015 having won 24 gold medals, 22 silvers and 16 bronze. Roderick Osis
