Saint Louis University Navigators inched closer to a possible final four appearance after scoring a huge win against the Baguio College of Technology Atoms, 77 – 65, in men’s basketball of the Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League.
Coming off a loss against league leader University of Baguio Cardinals Saturday afternoon, the Navigators dusted off an early strong start by the Atoms and trail 0 – 5 but spitfire guard Angelo Cacho and Vence Nycum that put SLU on top at the close of the first period, 19 – 12 at the UC gym Tuesday evening.
The win catapulted the Navigators to sit at third, with four wins and a loss with two remaining games in the eliminations round.
“Very important ‘tong game na to, kasi this will dictate kung papasok kame sa top four and luckily we got this game. Yun yung naging motivation naming, pumasok sa top four,” said head coach Raymund Austria.
Cacho led the Navigators with 25 points that include four triples while Vence Nycum chipped in 18 markers.
“Focus namin is on defense and hopefuly makuha pa namin maski isa dun sa huling dalawang game,” added Austria who will face University of the Cordilleras on November 20 at the UC Gym and on the 22nd against defending champion Cordillera Career Development College.
The Atoms almost made a comeback late in the fourth quarter after trailing by at least twenty points then trimmed the lead by nine, 68 – 59 with 1:45 remaining in the ball game.
But that was all the Atoms can muster as it fell to 3 – 4, after another tough loss against the Admirals last Sunday.
