Cordillera Career Development College Admirals continue to weave its magic after a masterclass disposal of the University of the Cordilleras Jaguars in the ongoing eliminations round of men’s basketball in the Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League.
The defending champion Admirals needed at least 10 minutes to flex its muscle, showing off their defensive prowess in edging the Jaguars, 102 – 64, Saturday afternoon at the SLU Prince Bernhard Gym.
“Lagi naming pinupukpok sa aming mga players yung depensa. Yung Offense andyan lang yun,” said Admirals head coach Manuel Felix Jr., who is also seeking their third straight title and possible five over-all in the league.
And the Admirals responded with their stonewall defense, starting the ball game on three steals and enjoy a 9 – 0 lead with 8:57 remaining in the opening canto enroute to a 32 – 17 advantage after the first 10 minutes of the ball game.
With their defense clicking, the starters had to sit out most of the game, allowing the Feliz Jr to mix and match his players during the remainder of the first half and take a commanding 53 – 34 advantage.
Starters Renz Jornacion and Paulo Boado found their rhythm early with both players finishing the ball game with 18 points apiece while Joel Ancheta added 12 with John Micheal Urbe chipping in 11 markers.
“Sa offense para maexecute ng maayos, wag nilang madaliin yung play. Pero pag hindi nashoot, dapat balik agad sa depensa,” added Felix.
CCDC is set to take on the Baguio College of Technology today, November 16 at the UB Cardinals Gym, take a six-day breather before closing out the eliminations round against Saint Louis University Navigators on the 22nd in their homecourt.
With two tough assignments awaiting them, Felix said they still need to be more than at their 100% best to secure the number two seed at the end of the eliminations and hopes for another rematch with their eliminations round tormentor UB.
“Gagawin pa rin namin ang best naming para just incase maka harap ulit namin ang UB ready kame,” said Felix Jr.
Toby Fang-asan was the only Jaguars who scored in double digit with 10 while Jan Rasec Ganilo and Jan Nisperso had nine points each. Roderick Osis
