Mercado, Liwan top 2nd Victory Day Golf Cup

Doy Mercado and Sonny Liwan topped the scoring sheets and emerged as champions of the 2nd Victory Day Golf Cup held at the John Hay Golf Club on Oct. 2, 2026.

Mercado captured the Overall Low Gross Championship, firing a gross score of 68 and winning on countback over the final nine holes.

He also took the Longest Drive (Male) special award after launching a 314-yard drive.

Liwan, meanwhile, ruled the Overall Low Gross Net Championship with a net score of 65, completing the tournament’s top honors.

In the Class A division, John Antonio emerged champion with a gross 68, a two handicap and a net 66. Jaybee Pasayan was first runner-up with 73 gross, seven handicap and 66 net, while Leo Laxamana placed second runner-up with 73 gross, seven handicap and 66 net.

Sevie Oliva topped Class B with 86 gross, 20 handicap and 66 net. Wenzel Ambulo finished first runner-up with 85 gross and 68 net, while Jun Misolas placed second runner-up with 83 gross, 14 handicap and 69 net.

In Class C, Phillip Pabelico won the championship with 93 gross, 24 handicap and 69 net. Myk Gamora also posted 69 net from 96 gross but settled for first runner-up on countback, while Ian Palattao placed second runner-up with 96 gross, 26 handicap and 70 net.

Marianne Bustos dominated the Ladies Division, posting 77 gross, 10 handicap and 67 net. Cecilia Rosalina Mamauag was first runner-up with 85 gross, 17 handicap and 68 net, while Karen Calulut finished second runner-up with 105 gross, 29 handicap and 76 net.

Bustos also won the Longest Drive (Female) award with a 252-yard drive.

Other special-hole honors went to BGen. Santiago Enginco, who won nearest to the pin at one yard, and Jun Misolas, who was the most accurate drive at five inches from the line.

No hole-in-one was recorded on either the 15th or 18th holes.

The tournament was organized in partnership with the City Government of Baguio and Veterans Bank, with proceeds dedicated to efforts to preserve and build World War II historical markers in Baguio City and Benguet. NLMonitor
