A reconsideration was made by the La Trinidad local government unit Friday morning to grant a permit for the anti-corruption protest at La Trinidad Public Market, slated October 18, Saturday.
Organizers were initially denied access to the venue citing technical reasons such as “time constraints” and “operational consideration, we were instead told to hold our protest at the Puguis Communal Forest.
However, statement of support from Kabataan Partly List as well as the Baguio-Benguet Against Corruption Network stating the Saturday gathering will push through with or without a permit from the local government, pushed officials to relent.
The Baguio-Benguet Against Corruption Network, a network organization and concerned individuals has called on the local government and the PNP of La Trinidad to reconsider their denial of permit, “We challenge local authorities to immediately reverse their denial and ISSUE THE PERMIT for the protest. Notwithstanding, we assure that we are always ready to assert our rights whenever hampered. We will definitely push through no matter what.”
The statement read “We will not be silenced. While we remain in dialogue with the local authorities, we are fully prepared to assert our constitutional right to protest on October 18 with the assistance from human rights groups and lawyers.” Maria Elena Catajan
