BCT Atoms halts slide, edge PMA Cavaliers in BBEAL

The Baguio College of Technology Atoms snapped a two – game skid as it finally nailed its first win in men’s basketball of the ongoing Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League Season 36.

After trailing by one at the end of the first canto, the Atoms turned things around in the second quarter as it disposed the Philippine Military Academy, 87 – 33, at the UP Baguio gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

The Cavaliers started strong behind Cadet Ernie Palalio as it enjoyed a 15 – 16 advantage going into the second quarter.

But the Atoms buckled down to work at the start of the second frame of the ball game with Eldemar Santiago and Adrian Cauton leading the scoring charge for a searing 26 – 6 run in 10 minutes.

BCT was staring at a 40 – 22 lead going into the half time break and never looked back ever since.

“Nag adjust talaga kame sa depensa going into this game kasi yung first game naming talagang mabibigat,” said rookie coach John Vincent Cruz referring to their first two games against power house University of the Cordilleras and the University of Baguio.

And the Atoms did response by limiting the Cavaliers to only 17 points in three quarters.

But coach Cruz said the Atoms has still to work on their scoring under the basket after the team missed at least 12 uncontested lay – ups.

“Kelangan nilang maging kalmado pag malapitan na ang tira. Masyado lang talag silang na eexcite,” added the first-time collegiate basketball coach.

Fruto Luzadas led BCT with 12 while Cauton and Santiago had nine points each while Cadet John Danielle Reoja had eight for the Cavaliers.

Meanwhile, defending champion Cordillera Career Development College Admirals pounded on the University of the Philippines – Baguio Maroons, 87 – 33.

The Admirals had five players scoring in double digit led by John Urbe’s 28 with Aaron Nang-is adding 14 as Arjay Contaoi and Reize Tadije chipping in 12 and 11 points each.
