Hocus Pocus is the drawing of attention to one thing while deterring it from reality. That is what perhaps, the news of Senator Imee Marcos pronouncements is doing right now – focusing on addiction rather than on the responsibility of government officials to answer for corruption charges. I know the drama is really demeaning but it keeps one intrigued good for the tabloids. I don’t know if you agree but let’s see it not as a pro or anti Ferdinand Marcos Jr. but hopefully as objectively as we can. After all, you may or may not agree but you’re entitled to your opinion as I am entitled to mine.
Hocus Pocus is steering away from the main reality and keeping the focus on another thing. Focus is such that we draw attention to something we want to perceive as reality. It is tantamount to attention span, I think.
They say that people now, especially the generation X and Y have a short attention span. They lose focus and get bored easily. This is considering that the age of technology has reduced us to a people of shorter attention span.
Focus is hard, especially for people suffering with a mental illness. I for one, could think of something then state it into blankness. Focus is such a conditioning of the mind.
I mean, how many times have you stared at empty spaces with thoughts of work, family or other concerns? How many times have you been problematic and just stared at the walls or even the ceiling. Looking at the ceiling strains the neck for that reason. But you continue to stare into blankness and emptiness despite knowing it’s strenuous.
Focus again is getting back to the present happening. It consists of mindfulness exercises too. Especially when people are diagnosed with anxiety. Grounding techniques take you back to reality and to focus on what matters most.
It’s a choice to condition the mind to focus. It’s a challenge especially mental health is a combination of complex matters from genes to what and what not’s. But with the proper simple conditioning like breathing, you can actually hocus pocus or or even Hocus focus.
As I always say, do what’s good for you. Sometimes it’s a trial and error thing but choose wisely with the lesser risks. You just have to try sometimes to really focus and prioritize. Breathe in and breathe out!
